Exciting and challenging times are ahead for St Paul’s and St Stephen’s as the two congregations join together at St Stephen’s in Pill, on Sunday mornings at 10am to trial their new ‘blended’ service until September.
The service will blend the traditions and styles of the Anglo-catholic St Stephen’s and the charismatic evangelical St Paul’s. It may well prove uncomfortable for us all as we lay aside preferences and seek to show our love to one another by being willing to make sacrifices for the benefit of others, as we unite in awe and reverence to worship our Lord. What better time could we be embarking on this new venture than Pentecost? How much we need the grace and power of the Holy Spirit to unite us in love and to empower us to be the people to further God’s kingdom together in Newport.
Come Holy Spirit! Enable us to worship in spirit and in truth, even in the unfamiliar. Make us one, just as Jesus prayed:
John 17:20-23 (NIV)
“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
